Territorial defense are forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is a separate type of forces of the Armed Forces, which is responsible for the organization, preparation and implementation of territorial defense tasks (according to the Law of Ukraine “On the Fundamentals of National Resistance”)

The Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine became the embodiment of the reincarnation and reforging of entrepreneurs, teachers, farmers, and IT workers into soldiers. Having accepted more than 100,000 Ukrainians into our ranks in a few weeks, we had to quickly learn how and why to train the new fighters.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The tasks of territorial defense are defined by the Law of Ukraine “On the Fundamentals of National Resistance”.
You can become a territorial defense reservist if:
- you are a citizen of Ukraine aged 18 to 57,
- even without experience in military service and registration with the military commissariat (territorial center of recruitment and social support)
Requirements for the state of health of TRO reservists are lower than in combat brigades. You have the opportunity to serve in the territorial defense, if the military medical commission at the territorial center of recruitment and social support determines your suitability for military service in the reserve.
The contract with officers and sergeants is for 5 years, with soldiers – for 3 years.
The contract with reservists of all categories is concluded by the commander of the military unit.
The grounds for termination of the contract are specified in paragraphs 27 and 28 of Presidential Decree № 502/2014 of 06.06.2014 “On the Regulations on service in the military reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” (as amended). Among them is the wording “by agreement of the parties”, so the reservist if necessary (travel to another location, abroad; change of family circumstances, etc.) may terminate the contract.
Thus, service under two contracts (each contract of a private – 3 years) in the territorial defense units replaces conscription. But if these contracts are terminated prematurely, military service is not credited.
The contract in the reserve provides for the performance of assigned tasks, in particular:
- defense and protection of the community of Kharkiv in case of armed aggression against it
- participation in the protection of the population and the environment in case of emergencies
- participation in the preparation of Ukrainian citizens for national resistance
- protection and defense of strategic objects, objects of infrastructure and communications of the capital, state and local authorities
- participation in the fight against sabotage and reconnaissance forces and illegal armed groups
- participation in ensuring public safety and order in the city.
